PENISTONE, PEAK and PENNINE TOURISM GROUP
Promoting Tourism in the Penistone Area
Established over 20 years ago, the Penistone, Peak and Pennine Tourism Group was formed by local businesses, individuals and managers of tourism destinations to promote tourism in the region and help boost the local economy.
The number of visitors to the region has steadily increased over the years and this is in no small part due to the efforts of the group in conjunction with other local partners.
Information about the new leaflet and map can be found here.
What we do
The group offers a platform for anyone involved in tourism to meet and discuss new initiatives and exchange ideas in a friendly and supportive environment. Each member has a genuine interest in the region and its prosperity and brings with them several years of experience that benefits us all.
General meetings are held quarterly with the addition of others on specific topics as required.
We’ve also published a range of leaflets and maintain the popular Visit Penistone website which features a wide range of activities and attractions in the region along with events listings and local accommodation.
As with any voluntary body, we rely on membership to help develop and grow and membership is open to all in the Penistone area who are involved in tourism in its widest sense: the pages on the Visit Penistone website illustrate the wide variety of attractions, activities and accommodation in the area.
Not every area has a group such as ours, and we feel its existence is more important than ever in today’s world of tight council budgets.
Membership costs £25 a year. You may be in business in your own right, or help to run an attraction in a voluntary capacity.
Membership will enable you to have a say in the running of the group and to be kept informed. All members are also entitled to have a listing on the Visit Penistone website, a feature that is particularly useful for accommodation providers and owners and/or managers of attractions such as the Cawthorne Museum.
From 2016 we plan to hold business meetings quarterly, with the addition of others on specific topics as required and we enjoy good relationships with officers from the local Council who attend our meetings and provide us with relevant news.
New national (DEFRA) funding for the area will soon be available, and rural tourism is one of the priorities in the local bid. This will mean that we will be able to apply for funding for leaflets and other initiatives, the content and directions of which will be decided in future meetings. We were successful in the last round of funding with money for the development and maintenance of the Visit Penistone website and the production of the popular map/brochure.
